Theses, Projects, and Student Jobs

Theses and projects at the Institute of Information Security are generally assigned on request, provided the institute has the necessary mentoring capacities. If we have an open position for a student job we will actively reach out to students ourselves; you do not need to apply for such a job.

Are you interested in writing a thesis or doing a project at the SEC?

Please note the following remarks:

  • We only offer projects and theses to students of the University of Stuttgart or University of Hohenheim. Please refrain from sending requests if you are a student of a different university.
  • You first contact Dagmar Gahr. Requests to other institute staff members will typically be ignored.
  • You should have successfully attended one or more of the institute's lectures in order to work on a thesis at our institute.
  • After you have submitted your application and potentially answered any open questions with Dagmar Gahr, please give us a bit of time to check whether we currently have sufficient resources for supervising your thesis/project as well as any topics that suit your profile. We will generally get back to you within two weeks.

Are you interested in a student job at the SEC?

We regularly have positions for students working as tutors or research assistants. Tutors are employed every semester for grading exercises in our lectures. Research assistants are needed on an irregular basis to support our ongoing research, e.g., by helping with implementing and benchmarking systems that we develop.

You do not have to actively apply for these student jobs. Instead, whenever we have any open positions we will reach out to students ourselves. Please check your student email account regularly so you do not miss a job offer.

Note that we can employ only students of the University of Stuttgart and that all of our student jobs require successfully passing at least one of our lectures and exams; the exact lectures(s) that are required depend on the position. If this does not apply to you, please refrain from contacting us as we will be unable to offer a position. Please also do not send any mass job applications to all employees of the institute. Such mass applications will generally be ignored. For any questions your initial point of contact is our secretary's office.
